Whitianga Festival of Speed

On the weekend of April 4th and 5th 2009, Whitianga Waterways in conjunction with local community and business groups, staged the inaugural Whitianga Festival of Speed.
The event included Offshore Power Boat races, big boat races, thunder cats, jet skis, jet sprint boats, rally cars, super cross bikes, speedway, three aerobatic teams, New Zealand Open Helicopter Championships, novelty races between helicopter and New Zealand’s quickest power boat, helicopter and rally car, to name but a few.
Close to 20,000 attended and since the Festival, accolades and enthusiastic messages of support have been flooding in.
The interest indicates enormous potential for growth. Whitianga will become a “must see” event destination.
The event organizers believe the Festival of speed has the potential to be one of New Zealand’s most popular thrill seeking events.
